Costume/Fall Fun Outfit Day and Parade
Thursday, October 31st: Students in PK-5 are encouraged to wear Fall Fun clothing and/or costumes to school. Weather permitting, we will have a parade around the football field/track at 10:00 AM.
PK-5 Parade Information
This parade will only be held if the weather is nice enough to take students outside and around the track. We will try to send a message through Rooms and the CHS App notification if the weather forecast does not look promising.
The parade will begin at 10:00 AM, and visitors are invited to watch the parade from the football stands. Students will enter the stadium and make at least one pass in front of the stands for photo opportunities.
All Pre-K families are welcome to attend the morning parade. If you would like to join, please meet in the main office and a preschool teacher will meet you around 9:50 AM. However, if you are unable to attend, afternoon students should wear their costumes for an indoor parade from classroom to classroom.
Parking will be available in the grassy area behind the football field's end zone and on area streets as signage permits.
*If you wish to park in the area behind the football field's end zone, please enter through the high school parking lot entrance. Beginning at 9:30 AM, staff will be there to help direct traffic and park vehicles. (Please do not arrive before 9:30 AM so we can get all students and staff safely into the buildings for the start of the day.)
*If you wish to park on area streets, please follow village signage for parking guidelines.
CLOTHING AND COSTUME GUIDELINES FOR CHES
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us make this a fun day for everyone by following the guidelines below. We do not want to have uncomfortable conversations with students or parents. Let's keep it fun!
SAFETY FIRST
This is during the school day, so they will need to go up and down stairs. They will need to go down a hill or stadium stairs for the parade. Some things you may not have thought about...
SHOES - Please ensure that your child wears safe shoes that meet the Dress Code requirements. (No heels, slippers, flip-flops, etc.)
MASKS - Costume masks are not permitted to keep vision clear at all times.
INFLATABLE COSTUMES - These are a safety risk when walking as they restrict movement, are a trip hazard and restrict vision, and should not be worn to school.
WEATHER APPROPRIATE - Look at the forecast to ensure that your child will be warm enough for an outdoor parade. Remind them that a coat over a costume is perfectly fine if needed.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
Throughout the day, students will need to be able to go to the restroom, sit in classes, and eat lunch. Some things you may not have thought about...
CLOTHING - If you choose to have your child wear regular clothes or Fall Fun clothing (t-shirts, headbands, etc.), you do not need to worry about any of the following guidelines.
COSTUMES - Please have your child wear the costume OVER regular clothing. Students often want to take off their costumes before the end of the day. We cannot have children changing complete outfits during the day. Parents will not be permitted to assist with getting their child dressed.
ACCESSORIES - One of the biggest issues we have had over the years is that students leave costume pieces at school or accidentally take the wrong accessories home and do not have them for other weekend activities. Keep costume accessories at home to avoid this issue.
MAKEUP -Please refrain from wearing any makeup/face paint. Students rub their eyes and faces throughout the day and often end up with no makeup on by the parade time and/or spend time in the clinic due to allergies or eye wash needs.
ELEMENTARY APPROPRIATE
It is important to remember that we have children at CHES as young as three years old. We also have students with various needs based on trauma, disability, fears, and/or experiences. Please make sure any costumes worn are elementary-appropriate. Keep the other costumes for Trick or Treating. Some things you may not have thought about...
SCARY CHARACTERS - Evil villains, characters from horror films, and those who are associated with violence should be avoided.
BLOOD AND GORE - Blood and gore are not acceptable at school.
WEAPONS - Weapons, including fake or look-alike weapons, violate the code of conduct. Please keep them at home.
DRESS CODE VIOLATIONS - Clothing that violates the dress code, including clothing that is too revealing, is inappropriate, even for costume day.
Any costume that violates the above-mentioned guidelines will not be permitted to be worn during the parade.
