MELVIN'S MESSAGE:

Good afternoon CHES families,

Welcome to another edition of the CHEScoop. It is hard to believe that we are entering the second week in December. The weather has certainly changed and I am already ready for the sun a warmth. Please be sure that your child is dressed for the weather each and every day. When it comes to outdoor recess, the handbook states: Recess takes place outdoors almost every day. Parents/guardians should plan for this and students should dress accordingly. When the wind chill is below 18 degrees or there is heavy rain, indoor activities will be planned.

The second quarter/first semester ends on December 19th and students will have an early release that day. Please see the schedule below. Be sure to check Progress Book to view your child's progress. Friday, December 20th is Records Day and students will not have school.

There is a lot of information in this edition of The Scoop such as snack purchase protocols, Countdown to Winter Break Spirit Week themes, Scotty the Elf appearances, December students of the month, the yearbook cover contest winner, BUS-A-PALOOZA, NHS/NJHS Holiday Drive, tuition interest form, PTO Winter Wonderland and December important dates.

Have a great weekend and an even better week,

Mr. Melvin

BUYING SNACKS AND ICE CREAM AT LUNCH

If your child buys lunch at school, please log in to Payschools to check your child's lunch balance. Please know that if your child has a negative lunch balance, they are unable to purchase snacks or ice cream. Also, please be aware that cash brought to school does not immediately go into their lunch account. It takes 24 hours to roll over. If your student wants to buy ice cream on Friday please have money on their account by Thursday. If you believe you may qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch, please contact the Food Service Department at 216-429-5736.

The friendly bus competition is underway!!! We are looking for the bus or buses that can show what it means to be Caring, Honest, Engaged and Safe. Students have the ability to earn one check for each category in the morning and the afternoon routes. The winner or winners will receive a bus party on December 19th. If your child is a bus rider, be sure to ask them if they earned their check marks for the day!

BUS-A-PALOOZA

The high school and middle school National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society are doing a community service project. They are collecting products for the Edna House. If you would like to have your student bring in items they can put them in the box in the office.

ATTENTION: Bus Riders, Please Register!

StopFinder is an app designed for parents of students who ride the school bus, providing real-time updates and essential information to ensure a smooth and secure commute. With StopFinder, parents can:

  1. View Student’s Schedule: Parents can access their child’s bus schedule, including pickup and drop-off times and locations.

  2. Share Schedule with Caregivers: The app allows parents to share their child’s bus schedule with other caregivers, ensuring everyone involved in the student's care is informed and prepared.

  3. Create GeoAlerts: Parents can set up custom geographic alerts. For example, when the bus enters or exits a specified area, parents receive a notification, which adds an extra layer of awareness and convenience.

  4. Configure ETA Alerts: Parents can enable Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) alerts that provide updates on the bus's arrival, reducing wait times and uncertainty.

  5. Receive Important Notifications: StopFinder sends alerts about important changes or incidents that might affect the bus route, such as late departures, traffic issues, or accidents, ensuring parents stay informed and can adjust plans if needed.

StopFinder is a comprehensive tool designed to give parents peace of mind by keeping them connected to their child’s transportation details.

StopFinder App Instructions

IMPORTANT NOTE: Parents cannot set up the app or login until they receive an activation email from our transportation department. This email was sent to the student's PRIMARY contact on August 14.

If you need the activation email re-sent to you. please contact our Transportation Coordinator, Paula Hupcey at phupcey@cuyhts.org or 216-429-5827

CAR RIDER PICKUP REMINDERS!

car

When picking up your student(s) in the car line, please remember to only scan the QR code when you get by the traffic light. Too many students are outside waiting for parents who are down the street. This will be difficult for students when the weather gets bad. Please keep your QR code in your car to use. Only ask the outside staff for the QR code as a last resort, as they are busy getting students safely to their cars. If you need a new QR code card, or if your username or password aren't working please contact the office and we will gladly help you. Thank you for your cooperation.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!

Regular attendance allows students to build a strong foundation in essential subjects like reading, writing, and mathematics. It also provides opportunities to interact with peers, develop social skills, and learn important life lessons. When students miss school, they may fall behind their classmates, struggle with assignments, and miss out on valuable learning experiences. Therefore, consistent attendance is essential for a child's success in school and beyond.
