Reaching New Heights

February 21, 2025

Congratulations Donny Raymond - Bowling State Qualifier

From the Desk of Superintendent Young

Dear CHS Community,

As February draws to a close, we find ourselves at an important juncture in the school year. With only three weeks remaining in the third quarter, now is the perfect time for students and families to review academic progress, check grades, and connect with teachers if additional support is needed.

This week's calendar is filled with performances that showcase our students' talents. Our high school musicians will take the stage for the choir, band, and orchestra concert, while our second graders are ready to make a splash with their production of "Go Fish!" Looking ahead to March 7, we are eagerly anticipating Elementary School VIP Day, when our youngest students will welcome their special guests to share in a small but meaningful school experience.

Even as we focus on current activities, we're already looking toward the future. The scheduling process for the 2025-26 school year is beginning - a reminder of how quickly time passes and the importance of planning ahead for our students' educational journeys.

Reaching New Heights Together,

Matt Young
Superintendent

CHS TIP OF THE WEEK: Maintaining Motivation Through the Mid-Year Slump

The mid-year period can be challenging for maintaining motivation and engagement. Recognizing and addressing this common challenge helps students stay focused and productive. Here are some tips to overcome the mid-year slump:

Preschool-5th Grade:

  • Change up daily routines to add variety

  • Set small, achievable weekly goals

  • Plan special learning activities or projects

  • Celebrate small victories and progress

6th-8th Grade:

  • Try new study methods or locations

  • Break large projects into smaller tasks

  • Create study groups for support

  • Find ways to make learning more interactive

9th-12th Grade:

  • Connect current work to future goals

  • Refresh organization systems

  • Plan regular review sessions

  • Balance academics with enjoyable activities

For All Students:

  • Get adequate rest and exercise

  • Maintain positive relationships

  • Keep a growth mindset

  • Focus on progress, not perfection

Remember, persistence through challenges builds resilience and strength!

Tanisha Moore
My name is Tanisha Moore, and I’m a proud mother of four amazing adult children—two daughters, ages 30 and 24, and 27-year-old twin sons. I’m also a lucky grandmother to six wonderful grandkids—four girls and two boys.

With over 20 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, I’ve dedicated my career to healthcare. In addition, I work as a Phlebotomy Instructor, teaching students the art of drawing blood.

Beyond my medical profession, I’m also a Karaoke DJ, bringing energy and fun to every event. As a wife, mother, grandmother, and entertainer, I cherish spending quality time with my family and friends.

Traveling is my passion, especially to destinations with sunny weather and beautiful beaches.

Keyonna Howard
My name is Keyonna Howard, RN, and I am honored to serve as the District Nurse. I have been a nurse since 2009 and have dedicated most of my career to skilled bedside nursing. My experience includes working at University Hospital in the Neurological Rehabilitation unit, as well as providing community nursing care through St. Vincent Charity, Elara Caring, and Community Behavioral Nursing.

Beyond my professional life, I am a proud wife, mother of five, and grandmother of three. Throughout my career, I have held various roles as a Registered Nurse, but none have been as fulfilling as my time here. Before starting this role, I never imagined how deeply rewarding it would be to care for the children of Cuyahoga Heights. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and feel blessed to support the health and well-being of our students every day.

8th gr cvcc trip

8th Graders Tour CVCC

Last Thursday, 8th grade students toured the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center as part of their introduction to high school options. The visit provided them with a closer look at programs that may align with their future career interests when they become juniors. Mrs. Regula, Career Specialist for CH, has been guiding students through various career development activities in class, and this trip helped them begin their high school planning by exploring both their interests and the opportunities available to them.

It strives to communicate that art is for everybody.
