From the Desk of Superintendent Young

Dear CHS Families,

As we reach the mid-way point of the first quarter of the school year, it's hard to believe how quickly time has flown. This is an opportune time to take notice of our students' progress and ensure they're on the right track for a successful year. Please review your child's grades and overall progress. If you notice any areas of concern, I strongly encourage you to reach out to their teachers. Our dedicated staff is here to provide suggestions and support to help your student meet our high standards. Remember, early intervention can make all the difference - don't wait until it's too late to address any challenges.

On another note, as our fall sports season is in full swing, I want to remind everyone about the importance of good sportsmanship. Whether we're cheering from the stands or competing on the field, let's continue to be the model of competitiveness and class. Our actions reflect not just on ourselves, but on our entire CHS community. In all that we do - in our classrooms, at our events, and in our daily lives - our students and community must continue to represent the very best of CHS.

Together, we can make this a year of growth, achievement, and community pride. If you need any support or have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're all in this together, working towards the common goal of our students' success.

CHS TIP OF THE WEEK: Getting Involved and Making Connections

Encouraging participation in school activities is vital for a well-rounded education. Extracurriculars help students develop new skills, build friendships, and find their passions. Involvement in school life also enhances academic performance by increasing engagement and motivation.

Here are some tips to promote participation:

Preschool-5th Grade:

  • Explore after-school programs or activities offered by the school or community

  • Encourage trying a new activity each semester

  • Attend school events as a family to show support and interest

  • Help your child set goals related to their chosen activities

6th-8th Grade:

  • Review the list of school clubs and sports teams with your child

  • Suggest joining a club related to a favorite subject or hobby

  • Encourage participation in student government or school committees

  • Discuss how to balance extracurriculars with academic responsibilities

9th-12th Grade:

  • Explore activities that align with potential college or career interests

  • Encourage taking leadership roles in clubs or organizations

  • Discuss the benefits of community service for personal growth

  • Help create a resume of extracurricular activities and achievements

For All Students:

  • Listen to your child's interests and help find matching activities

  • Emphasize the importance of commitment once joining an activity

  • Volunteer together at school events to model involvement

  • Celebrate participation and effort, not just achievements

Remember, there's something for everyone at our school. Participation builds community and makes the school experience richer and more rewarding.

Mrs. Schaefer consistently demonstrates exceptional dedication in her role. Her diligent efforts to maintain a clean and disinfected elementary building environment ensure a safe and healthy space for both students and staff.

Beyond her regular duties, Mrs. Schaefer shows a cheerful willingness to go above and beyond, always ready to lend a helping hand where needed. Her genuine care for the elementary school students is evident in the way she actively engages with them, making each child feel valued and seen.

One of Mrs. Schaefer's most admirable qualities is her intentional kindness. She takes the time to greet both students and staff, fostering a sense of community and belonging within the school. Her positive interactions contribute significantly to the welcoming atmosphere of our institution.

It is worth noting that Mrs. Schaefer's exceptional qualities and contributions have not gone unnoticed by her colleagues. Elementary secretary, Dawn Zorc, recognized these outstanding attributes and took the initiative to nominate Mrs. Schaefer for this well-deserved recognition.

IMPORTANT: Chagrin Valley Conference (CVC) Sportsmanship Message from Commissioner Don Lewis

SPORTSMANSHIP STANDARDS

From Commissioner Lewis: I am very proud of the Chagrin Valley Conference, as we have established very high sportsmanship standards for our athletes, coaches and spectators. We strive as a conference to uphold the highest level of sportsmanship. Recently the CVC added three additional provisions to our bylaws to enhance our sportsmanship standards.

  • Spectators - Consequences will be given for unsportsmanlike behavior(s) to spectators that are removed from a contest by either an official, onsite administrator, and/or security. If removed from a contest, the spectator will serve a one and/or more contest suspension from the immediately following home and/or away contest(s). Furthermore, they must complete one or more NFHS sportsmanship courses in order to return as a spectator. Additional consequences may be given by school officials. (Operating Standard 6).

  • Student Athletes & Coaches - The Chagrin Valley Conference expects the highest levels of sportsmanship conduct of its coaches and student-athletes. Unacceptable sportsmanship conduct will be determined by the contest officials and/or school administration, and security. Consequences will be given for unsportsmanlike behavior(s) to coaches and student athletes that are removed/ejected from a contest by either an official, onsite administrator, and/or security. Student-athletes and/or coaches removed from a contest will serve OHSAA sanctions. Furthermore, student-athletes and/or coaches will serve CVC sanctions, which include online classes with the NFHS. Schools reserve the right for additional consequences for poor sportsmanship behavior and/or removal from a contest(s). (Operating Standard 7)

  • Compliance Committee - We have added a Compliance committee to review all violations of our CVC Bylaws.  The committee shall preserve the integrity of the CVC and oversee the operations of the CVC and its members by investigating, assessing, identifying, reporting, and rectifying any instances of non-compliance by CVC members. (Article VII - Committees - Section 3.)

Please contact Mr. Ryan Kelber, Athletic Director, if you have questions.
