From the Desk of Superintendent Young
Dear CHS Community,
As we wrap up Homecoming week, I want to acknowledge the positive energy and school spirit displayed by our students and staff. We still have two important events ahead: our game against Independence and the Homecoming dance. Let's continue to support our school and enjoy these final Homecoming activities responsibly.
Last weekend, two separate events highlighted special aspects of our school community. The Alumni Picnic brought together past graduates, allowing them to reconnect and share their experiences of Cuyahoga Heights. It was a testament to the lasting bonds formed at our school. Separately, the PTO Family Tailgate provided an opportunity for current families to come together, strengthening connections among parents, students, and staff. Both events, in their own ways, display the strong sense of community that defines Cuyahoga Heights.
With fall fully underway, I remind everyone to increase awareness during the darker mornings. Please be extra cautious around school bus stops and areas where students may be walking. Your attention to safety helps ensure all our students arrive at school ready to learn.
Reaching New Heights Together!

CHS TIP OF THE WEEK: Keeping the Back-to-School Enthusiasm Alive
Maintaining momentum after the initial back-to-school excitement is key to a successful year. As routines settle in, it's important to keep engagement high and continue the positive energy from the start of the year. Sustained enthusiasm leads to better attendance, improved academic performance, and a more positive school experience.
Here are some tips to keep the momentum going:
Preschool-5th Grade:
Create a visual "achievement board" at home to track progress
Plan special family celebrations for completing monthly goals
Use positive reinforcement for maintaining good habits
6th-8th Grade:
Help set monthly academic and personal growth goals
Introduce new study techniques to keep learning fresh
Discuss how current learning connects to future aspirations
9th-12th Grade:
Relate coursework to real-world applications or career interests
Discuss long-term goals and how current efforts contribute to them
Suggest job shadowing or informational interviews in fields of interest
For All Students:
Maintain open communication about school experiences
Continue to show interest in daily learning and activities
Plan engaging weekend activities to look forward to
Recognize and celebrate ongoing efforts, not just results
Remember, maintaining enthusiasm is a team effort. By working together, we can ensure that the excitement of learning continues throughout the year.

This is a story about the land of grade one
Where the teachers specialize in learning, friendship, and FUN!
Their students learn to love reading, science, and math,
Where school becomes an adventure, new surprises on each path!
Who are these teachers that help their students grow?
Well, they are all wonderful ladies that you should know.
Ms. Budzick, Mrs. Martens, and Mrs. Kasmarcak,
Guiding little minds, always on the right track.
With patience, kindness, and endless cheer,
They nurture their students, year after year.
In their classrooms, magic happens each day,
As curiosity blooms and worries melt away.
Miss Budzick lights up when learning is the game,
Teaching her students with excitement and aim.
Numbers and patterns become so much fun,
As they count, measure, and problem-solve one by one.
Mrs. Martens loves to make learning a joy,
Helping every girl and every boy
Find adventurers through the pages they turn,
Where endless stories help their imaginations burn.
And Mrs. Kasmarcak, with her heart full of care,
Encourages her students to question, explore, and dare.
Each day, she shows how the world is so wide,
Filling young minds with wonder and pride.
Together, they teach with passion and love,
As their students soar like the stars above.
In the land of grade one, the journey's just begun—
Learning, laughter, and growth for everyone!

Homecoming Court's Video Tradition
The homecoming court creates an annual fun video, showcased during convocation on homecoming game day. This creative project highlights court members' personalities and builds excitement for the festivities. From skits to dance routines, these videos are a cherished part of the homecoming experience.
At today's electrifying pep rally, Cuyahoga Heights High School unveiled its 2024 Homecoming royalty. Zach Unger and Katie Buccier were crowned King and Queen, after being selected by both staff and their fellow students. The announcement set the stage for an exciting evening, with the football team set to face off against Independence. The festivities will culminate tomorrow at 7 PM with the much-anticipated Homecoming dance, where the newly crowned monarchs will undoubtedly take center stage.
Cuyahoga Heights Schools proudly announces the September Students of the Month. Each month, eight students are selected based on teacher nominations: one from each grade 6th-12th, and two from a particular grade level in the elementary school. These exemplary students, chosen for their outstanding achievements, were recognized at the Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, September 25. This monthly recognition highlights our students' diverse talents and dedication throughout the school year. Congratulations to all!

Excitement filled the air at Friday morning's convocation as the school administration unveiled this year's play in a creative and memorable way. The classic tale "The Wizard of Oz" will be brought to life on stage from April 4-6, 2025. The announcement came through a delightful costume reveal, with Superintendent Matt Young as the Tin Man, Assistant Superintendent George Burich as the Cowardly Lion, Dean of Students Elena Scotton as Dorothy, and Noah Hamrick as the Scarecrow. Grace Brown, who heads up the musical, was present alongside the costumed characters. This unexpected and entertaining presentation not only revealed the upcoming production but also showcased the administration's enthusiasm and support for the arts. Students interested in auditioning for the play are encouraged to reach out to Mrs. Brown for details, as they eagerly anticipate the magical journey to Oz.
Our elementary school's tailgate event last Friday was a big hit! Students had a great time eating hot dogs and chips, and playing fun games like ring toss, bowling, and basketball. The PTO sold school spirit wear, and everyone enjoyed the music played by DJs Big Red and NR Bertolone. It was a wonderful day for students, families, and staff to come together and have fun outside of school.
This week, our Third Grade Scientists wrote letters to their Lakewood Schools science pen pals and worked on "Pen Pal Math," while also looking forward to our spring Engineering Day, where they'll build and count numerous 3D-printed parts. Meanwhile, the Fourth Grade Scientists mastered the concept of finding volume through displacement, learning the innovative "Rupert Way" method. These hands-on activities showcase our commitment to making science and math both engaging and practical for our young learners.

SPORTSMANSHIP STANDARDS
From Commissioner Lewis: I am very proud of the Chagrin Valley Conference, as we have established very high sportsmanship standards for our athletes, coaches and spectators. We strive as a conference to uphold the highest level of sportsmanship. Recently the CVC added three additional provisions to our bylaws to enhance our sportsmanship standards.
Spectators - Consequences will be given for unsportsmanlike behavior(s) to spectators that are removed from a contest by either an official, onsite administrator, and/or security. If removed from a contest, the spectator will serve a one and/or more contest suspension from the immediately following home and/or away contest(s). Furthermore, they must complete one or more NFHS sportsmanship courses in order to return as a spectator. Additional consequences may be given by school officials. (Operating Standard 6).
Student Athletes & Coaches - The Chagrin Valley Conference expects the highest levels of sportsmanship conduct of its coaches and student-athletes. Unacceptable sportsmanship conduct will be determined by the contest officials and/or school administration, and security. Consequences will be given for unsportsmanlike behavior(s) to coaches and student athletes that are removed/ejected from a contest by either an official, onsite administrator, and/or security. Student-athletes and/or coaches removed from a contest will serve OHSAA sanctions. Furthermore, student-athletes and/or coaches will serve CVC sanctions, which include online classes with the NFHS. Schools reserve the right for additional consequences for poor sportsmanship behavior and/or removal from a contest(s). (Operating Standard 7)
Compliance Committee - We have added a Compliance committee to review all violations of our CVC Bylaws. The committee shall preserve the integrity of the CVC and oversee the operations of the CVC and its members by investigating, assessing, identifying, reporting, and rectifying any instances of non-compliance by CVC members. (Article VII - Committees - Section 3.)
Please contact Mr. Ryan Kelber, Athletic Director, if you have questions.
