Cuyahoga Heights School District Community,
As we begin the 2025-26 school year, I am honored to continue serving as your superintendent. This marks my second year in this role and my 31st year in education, with a deep commitment to this community that began when I first arrived in 2015. Since then, I have had the privilege of serving as middle and high school principal and assistant superintendent, experiencing firsthand the strong character of our district. I am grateful for the people who make our district exceptional. Whether you represent the fourth generation of your family to walk these halls or you are stepping into our community for the very first time, you are part of something truly special—a legacy built on nearly nine decades of commitment to our students.
Our vision, "Empowering students to reach new heights," is not just words on a wall. It is lived out every single day by the people who call Cuyahoga Heights home. From our dedicated staff who see potential in every child, to our families who trust us with their most precious gifts, to our community members who volunteer countless hours—we are interconnected by something far deeper than geography. We are bound by purpose.
In a world where technology and artificial intelligence are reshaping everything around us, we remain steadfast in our commitment to what matters most: authentic human connections. While we embrace innovation and prepare our students for an ever-evolving future, we never lose sight of the fundamental truth that education is a deeply human endeavor. It is in the encouraging word from a teacher, the pride in a parent's eyes, the friendship formed in our hallways, and the support our community provides during both celebrations and challenges.
Our students continue to achieve and grow alongside the finest schools in Ohio, not because of any single program or technology, but because of the people who believe in them. From our staff who go above and beyond every day, to our families who support their children's learning, to our community members who invest in our students' futures—this collective commitment is what sets us apart.
This interconnectedness—this sense of being one team—sets us apart as a model for what public education can achieve. We do not just educate students; we empower them. We do not just serve families; we embrace them. We do not just work in this community; we are one with this community.
As we embark on another year together, I am reminded that our greatest tradition is not found in any trophy case or achievement banner. It is found in the relationships we build, the care we show, and the belief that every student can reach new heights when supported by people who genuinely care about their success.
To our returning families and those joining us for the first time, to our veteran staff members and new team members, to our students carrying family legacies and those starting fresh chapters—thank you for choosing to be part of our story. Together, we continue writing the next chapter of excellence, one student, one connection, one moment of empowerment at a time.
I look forward to working with all of you to make this year meaningful—not just in achievement, but in the ways we support each other and demonstrate, once again, that when a community truly commits to its students, there are no limits to what they can achieve.
Here's to reaching new heights together!

Welcoming New Teachers and Classmates
The first week of school brings the excitement of meeting new teachers and classmates who will be part of your child's learning journey this year. Building positive relationships from the start creates a supportive environment where everyone can thrive academically and socially. When students feel welcomed and connected, they are more likely to participate actively, ask questions, and develop confidence in their abilities. Here are some strategies for making meaningful connections during this important first week:
Preschool-5th Grade:
Practice introducing themselves clearly with their name and something they enjoy
Encourage sharing a favorite book or hobby with new classmates
Help them prepare thoughtful questions to ask their teacher
Talk about how to include others who might feel nervous or shy
6th-8th Grade:
Discuss how to be approachable and friendly to new students
Encourage participation in classroom discussions and activities
Practice active listening skills when teachers explain expectations
Help them find common interests with classmates
9th-12th Grade:
Encourage introducing themselves to teachers before or after class
Suggest joining study groups or collaborative projects early in the year
Practice professional communication skills with educators
Look for opportunities to help new students navigate the school
For All Students:
Show genuine interest in getting to know others
Be patient as everyone adjusts to new routines
Practice kindness and inclusivity from day one
Remember that first impressions can set the tone for the entire year
Remember, strong relationships built during the first week often become the foundation for a successful and enjoyable school year for everyone involved.
This week, we are proud to recognize our dedicated cafeteria staff as our Champion Staff! Each day, they go above and beyond to make sure our students and staff are served with healthy meals, warm smiles, and a welcoming environment. From early mornings of preparation to the busy lunch rush, their hard work keeps our school running smoothly and our community well-fed. Their kindness, teamwork, and care truly embody the spirit of Cuyahoga Heights Schools.
