Dear CHS Community,
This morning's power outage was certainly unexpected. A pole fire occurred at the corner of Warner and Canal Roads, disrupting power to our district. Although power was restored ahead of the anticipated time, it took a couple of hours to get our systems back online, making it necessary to call off school for the day. I appreciate everyone's understanding and hope this surprise long weekend is enjoyed.
Tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m., the Music Booster Club presents CHS Got Talent in the high school auditorium. This annual fundraising event always delivers an exciting evening as students and community members showcase their talents. Past performances have featured everything from garage bands to more unique abilities like alphabet burping. It promises to be an entertaining night for all.
We are in the midst of winter postseason competition, and our athletes continue to represent our district with pride. We wish all our student-athletes, especially our seniors, and their coaches the very best as they compete in OHSAA tournaments.
With Daylight Saving Time just two weeks away, we can finally say that spring is around the corner. As we look forward to warmer weather and longer days, I want to thank our families for continuing to choose Cuyahoga Heights Schools and for supporting our students in reaching new heights. Reaching New Heights Together, Matt Young Superintendent |

Career Conversations: Connecting Today's Learning to Tomorrow's Opportunities |
Helping students connect their current education to future career possibilities makes learning more meaningful and motivating. When students understand how today's lessons build skills for tomorrow's opportunities, they engage more deeply with their studies. Regular career conversations don't require having all the answers—they simply open students' minds to possibilities and help them see education as an investment in their future. Here are some strategies for meaningful career conversations:
Preschool-5th Grade: |
- Discuss the variety of jobs people do in your community
- Share stories about different careers and what makes them interesting
- Connect school subjects to real-world jobs and careers
- Explore how reading, math, and problem-solving apply across all professions
|
-
Discuss the education and training required for careers that interest them
- Help them identify their natural strengths and how these connect to career paths
- Talk about the changing nature of work and emerging career fields
- Explore how different subjects build transferable skills
|
- Research specific career pathways and post-secondary options together
- Discuss how current course selections align with future goals
- Arrange job shadowing or informational interviews when possible
- Connect extracurricular activities to career skill development
|
- Share your own career journey, including changes and learning experiences
- Emphasize that career paths aren't always linear or predetermined
- Discuss the importance of strong work habits regardless of career choice
- Encourage exploration without pressure to make final decisions
|
Remember, career conversations should open doors, not close them. The goal is to help students see possibilities and understand that their education is building a foundation for future success. |

Introducing our High School Math Department |
Click on the FUN FACT under each photo to learn something interesting about each staff member! |
The Cuyahoga Heights Schools Math Department exemplifies what it means to be CHampion Staff. Serving students from middle school through advanced high school coursework, this dedicated team works collaboratively to ensure that every learner is supported, challenged, and prepared for future success. Through strong communication, shared problem solving, and a commitment to continuous growth, they create a cohesive program that builds confidence and competence at every level. Here is what they have to say about their work and their team.
“Our team includes all middle school and high school math teachers, along with the intervention specialists who support our students. We work collaboratively to ensure that each student receives the best and most appropriate math education possible through graduation. We meet regularly, communicate concerns about student success, and work together to develop effective solutions. I truly enjoy being part of this team.” -Al Martin
“The four of us provide knowledge and support to students at all levels, from Algebra to Calculus and everything in between.” -James Rademaker
“In our department, we focus on more than just numbers and shapes. We teach students how to think critically and solve complex problems. Students build skills they will use for the rest of their lives, such as perseverance. My role in the Geometry classroom builds on the foundations of Algebra I and prepares students for higher-level math courses. Since I am the only Geometry teacher in the district, I have the opportunity to work with every student during their high school career. I also teach one Algebra I class, which gives me the privilege of teaching some students twice during their time at Cuyahoga Heights.” -Jordan Sadler
“I teach the College Credit Plus math courses and AP Calculus AB, BC, and Statistics. I love teaching math because many students do not initially feel comfortable with the content, but when a concept finally clicks, the smile they share is priceless. I treasure the experiences and relationships we build in our classrooms. They are what make each day different from the one before.” -Christy Zawadski
From Algebra to Calculus, and from foundational skills to college credit opportunities, the Math Department goes far beyond teaching formulas and equations. They cultivate critical thinking, perseverance, and resilience—skills that extend well beyond the classroom. Their teamwork, dedication, and genuine care for students make them truly deserving of recognition as CHampion Staff. |
