Dear CHS Community,
Next week, we finally cross the midpoint of winter on February 3. We have already used two school years' worth of calamity days this year, and we still have much more winter weather ahead of us. While we cannot control the weather, we can control how we respond to the disruptions it causes. I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we navigate winter's unpredictability together.
We are also nearing the halfway point of the third quarter. The recent calamity days have made it more challenging to gain and maintain academic momentum. I strongly encourage any students who need assistance with their coursework to communicate with their teachers as soon as possible. Our staff is ready to provide support and help students stay on track despite these interruptions.
As we enter February, the winter sports season begins its final month. Spring sports will begin in just five weeks, which is hard to believe given the current weather conditions. Please take the opportunity to come out and support our winter student-athletes during their remaining competitions, especially our seniors who will soon participate in their final games and matches as Red Wolves. Reaching New Heights Together, Matt Young

Winter Wellness: Supporting Physical and Mental Health |
The winter months can be challenging for maintaining both physical and mental health. Cold weather, limited daylight, and winter illnesses can affect energy levels, mood, and overall wellbeing. Supporting student health during this season is essential for academic success and personal happiness. Here are some strategies for promoting winter wellness:
Preschool-5th Grade: |
- Ensure consistent sleep schedules with adequate rest
- Encourage outdoor play whenever weather permits
- Maintain healthy eating habits with fruits and vegetables
-
Create cozy indoor activities for days when outdoor play isn't possible
|
- Discuss the importance of hygiene practices to prevent illness
- Encourage daily physical activity even when it's cold outside
- Watch for signs of seasonal mood changes or withdrawal
- Help them maintain social connections during winter months
|
- Address the connection between physical health and academic performance
- Encourage stress management through exercise, hobbies, or relaxation techniques
- Discuss healthy coping strategies for winter blues or seasonal challenges
- Support maintaining balance between responsibilities and self-care
|
-
Prioritize hand washing and other illness prevention practices
- Keep open communication about how they're feeling physically and emotionally
- Ensure adequate vitamin D through diet or supplements as recommended
- Create warm, inviting home spaces that promote wellbeing
|
Remember, taking care of physical and mental health isn't selfish; rather, it is necessary. A healthy student is better prepared to learn, grow, and enjoy life. |

Due to the forecast of inclement weather this weekend, the CHS Music Boosters have made the decision to postpone CHS Got Talent to ensure the safety of our performers, audience members, and volunteers. While we were looking forward to celebrating the incredible talents of our community, safety must come first.
We are excited to announce that CHS Got Talent has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 6:00 PM, and will still take place in the CHS High School Auditorium. All the fun remains the same, an evening filled with singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, musicians, and more. Admission will continue to be $5, with free entry for performers & volunteers. We will also have basket raffles, a 50/50, concessions, and more!
If you already signed up to perform or volunteer, your spot will carry over to the new date.
