Dear CHS Community,
I hope everyone had a restful and meaningful winter break. As we return to school and enter both a new calendar year and the second semester, we bring renewed energy to the work ahead.
We accomplished so much together both in and out of our classrooms during the first semester. Our students have grown academically, developed their talents, and built meaningful relationships with peers and teachers. Yet there is still much to learn and experience before this school year culminates with promotions and the commencement of the Class of 2026. The months ahead will bring new challenges, new opportunities, and new moments for our students to discover what they are capable of achieving.
Each person possesses a unique potential. Our job as educators, parents, and community members is to help students recognize and develop that potential. When students unlock their abilities, pursue their passions, and work toward their goals, they give a gift not only to themselves but to the world around them. As we move forward in 2026, let us remain committed to creating the conditions where every student can discover their strengths, overcome obstacles, and reach heights they may not have imagined possible.
Reaching New Heights Together,
Matt Young Superintendent

Fresh Start Strategies for the New Calendar Year |
The new calendar year offers a natural opportunity to reset, refocus, and renew commitment to academic and personal goals. After the busy holiday season, January provides a chance to establish fresh routines and habits that will carry students through the rest of the school year. A thoughtful fresh start helps students regain momentum and approach the second semester with energy and purpose. Here are some strategies for making the most of this new beginning:
Preschool-5th Grade:
|
- Review and update morning and homework routines for the new year
- Help them set one or two simple, achievable goals for the semester
- Reorganize their learning space with fresh supplies and materials
- Create a visual calendar marking important dates and milestones
|
- Evaluate first semester study habits and identify areas for improvement
- Set specific academic targets for each subject area
- Clean out and reorganize lockers, backpacks, and digital files
- Establish new organizational systems if previous ones weren't working
|
- Review transcript progress and adjust plans as needed
- Set both academic and personal development goals for the semester
- Update planners and calendars with second semester deadlines
- Reflect on lessons learned from first semester challenges and successes
|
- Approach the new year with optimism and a growth mindset
- Start fresh academically regardless of first semester performance
- Recommit to healthy routines for sleep, nutrition, and exercise
- Focus on one day at a time rather than feeling overwhelmed
|
Remember, every day is a chance for a fresh start. The new calendar year simply gives us a clear marker to intentionally recommit to our goals and best efforts. |
