Reaching New Heights

July 11, 2025

From the Desk of Superintendent Young

Dear CHS Community,

With the 4th of July celebration behind us, we still have plenty of summer ahead to enjoy. However, we are beginning to see early signs of the upcoming school year as some sports activities have started - camps, conditioning sessions, and volunteer opportunities. Official sports seasons will begin in just three weeks.

Our construction projects continue to move forward successfully. The hillside stabilization project is in its final phases and is set to complete next week. Meanwhile, the fire and security system replacement project has made significant progress, with much of the new wiring (over 5 miles worth!) installed to support the upcoming hardware installation phase.

This week brought exciting news with the arrival of our preliminary Advanced Placement results. Our students achieved a 15-year high average score of 3.422 out of 5, with 77% of scores earning a 3 or higher. This phenomenal effort reflects the dedication of both our students and their AP teachers. These results demonstrate the commitment to academic excellence that defines our school community.

Thank you to our community for continuing to value and support educational excellence. Your investment in our students and programs makes achievements like these possible.

Reaching New Heights Together!

On July 1, twenty student-athletes from Cuyahoga Heights volunteered their time and energy at the Jacobs Ladder Fitness Challenge. These Red Wolves helped run six athletic events by recording results and encouraging participants with special needs every step of the way.

Jacobs Ladder is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting fitness in the special needs community. With up to 20 classes offered each week across Northeast Ohio, the group continues to create meaningful, inclusive fitness opportunities—and our students were proud to be a part of it.

Youth Basketball Camp

From June 23–26, thirty-eight students in grades 3 through 6 took to the courts at The Flip for a fun-filled Youth Basketball Camp. With guidance from players and coaches from the boys and girls high school and middle school basketball programs, campers spent the week sharpening their skills, building teamwork, and having a blast.

Each day included exciting 1-on-1 and 2-on-2 tournaments, as well as a fast-paced basketball obstacle course where teammates cheered each other on. The camp wrapped up with the much-anticipated “Money Ball” competition, closing out a week of growth, hustle, and Red Wolf pride!

Fire Alarm Upgrade

Einheit Electric Construction Company is currently replacing the fire and security alarm systems throughout our Middle and High School complex. After experiencing a system failure last summer, we were able to complete the school year using temporary repairs and increased maintenance. However, full replacement is now underway to ensure long-term reliability. This project is expected to continue throughout the summer.

Hillside Stabilization

The Hillside Stabilization Project by Ruhlin is nearly complete. 500+ piles have been driven, and slopes restored. All that remains is asphalt replacement, handicapped symbol/striping, fence repairs/gate reinstallation at north end, and double swing gate installation at south end. Completion of the majority of the project is expected by July 18.
