Reaching New Heights

July 18, 2025

From the Desk of Superintendent Young

Dear CHS Community,

As we find ourselves in mid-July, I want to encourage everyone to fully embrace these remaining weeks of summer break. With just over a month before we start up again, now is the perfect time to focus on the simple pleasures that make summer memories last a lifetime.

Take advantage of these warm evenings for backyard campfires with friends and family. Explore local hiking trails in the Metroparks, treat yourselves to ice cream on a hot afternoon, or dust off those bicycles for a leisurely ride along the towpath. Pick up that book you have been meaning to read, plan a picnic in the park, or simply enjoy an evening on the porch watching the sunset.

Summer provides unique opportunities to strengthen family bonds and build friendships in ways that our busy school-year schedules often do not allow. Whether it is a spontaneous trip to the local pool, a family game night, or gathering friends for a cookout, these moments of connection are invaluable.

The beauty of summer lies in both the exciting adventures and the quiet, everyday moments. Take time to appreciate both. These experiences and memories will carry us all through the exciting but busy months ahead.

Make the most of these precious summer days - they will be here and gone before we know it.

Reaching New Heights Together!

Hoops for a Cause: Joe LaBella 2-on-2 Challenge Scores Big

The Joe LaBella 2-on-2 Basketball Challenge took over the Flip Saunders Gymnasium last Thursday, bringing together 32 teams across three divisions for a fun and competitive day on the court. Thanks to the spirited participation, the event raised over $400 for the Joe LaBella Scholarship Fund, which supports graduating seniors at both Cuyahoga Heights and Independence High Schools.

A special thank you goes out to 1991 CHS graduate Mike Suhy, whose ongoing support continues to make a lasting impact on this meaningful cause.

ACT Prep

Current: Freshman | Sophomores | Juniors

In the spring sessions, students will get test taking tips by subject, take a practice test in that subject, and then review the test.

In the summer sessions, students will receive more extensive test taking tips by subject, take a practice test in that subject, and review the test.

On August 10, students will take a full-length practice test (all 4 subjects) and get scaled scores.

These courses are free but require the purchase of the book. You can purchase it on Amazon by clicking here: The Princeton Review 2025 ACT Review.

Fire Alarm Upgrade

Einheit Electric Construction is replacing the fire and security alarm systems in the Middle and High School complex. After last summer’s system failure, temporary fixes got us through the year—but full replacement is now in progress to ensure long-term reliability.

Over five miles of wiring have been installed, and hardware installation is up next. Work is expected to continue through the summer.

Hillside Stabilization

The Hillside Stabilization Project by The Ruhlin Company is approaching the finish line. More than 500 steel piles have been installed, slopes have been restored, asphalt has been repaved, and all striping is complete.

Among the remaining tasks are reinstalling the gate at the north end and installing a new double-swing gate at the south end. Substantial completion is expected soon, with a final walk-through scheduled for the end of the month.
