Dear CHS Community,
Next week brings a busy four-day week for our students, filled with meaningful activities across all three buildings. Our elementary school welcomes grandparents for the PTO-sponsored Goodies with Grands, celebrating the important role these family members play in our students' lives. Middle school students will participate in Safety Week programming, while high school students in grades 9-11 will take the PSAT. Additionally, our high school students will engage in volunteerism and service through our annual Community Impact Day, demonstrating their commitment to giving back to the community.
As a reminder, there is no school on Friday for both staff and students.
Many of our fall co-curricular programs are wrapping up their seasons or entering postseason competition. I encourage you to come out and support our students while opportunities remain to see them perform and compete this fall.
The Cuyahoga Heights Annual Corn Roast takes place tomorrow. We hope to see you there for this traditional gathering that brings people in our community together.
Reaching New Heights Together,
Matt Young
Superintendent
Finishing the First Quarter Strong
As we approach the end of the first quarter, it's important to help students maintain focus and finish with their best effort. This first grading period establishes patterns and habits that will carry forward throughout the year. A strong finish builds confidence, provides valuable feedback on progress, and creates positive momentum for the quarters ahead. Here are some strategies to help your child end the first quarter successfully:
Preschool-5th Grade:
Review any incomplete or missing assignments with your child
Create a simple countdown chart to track remaining school days
Celebrate daily efforts and small accomplishments
Help organize folders and materials for upcoming assessments
6th-8th Grade:
Check online gradebooks together and identify areas needing attention
Schedule time for extra help or tutoring if needed
Create a study calendar for any upcoming tests or projects
Encourage completion of all work before the quarter closes
9th-12th Grade:
Meet with teachers during office hours to discuss grade improvement strategies
Prioritize assignments that carry the most weight in overall grades
Review first quarter performance to identify patterns and areas for growth
Use this as an opportunity to reset study habits if needed
For All Students:
Ensure adequate sleep and nutrition during this busy time
Break large tasks into manageable daily goals
Maintain a positive attitude focused on effort and improvement
Discuss any concerns with teachers before the quarter ends
Remember, finishing strong isn't just about grades—it's about building habits of perseverance and follow-through that will serve students throughout their educational journey.
This week, we’re excited to highlight our amazing second grade staff. These dedicated educators work tirelessly to create a classroom environment where curiosity is encouraged, learning is celebrated, and every student feels valued. With a perfect blend of patience, creativity, and enthusiasm, they help our students build confidence, strengthen their skills, and continue their journey as lifelong learners. We are so grateful for the energy and heart they bring to our school community each and every day!

The Middle School Board Game Club had a special treat this month when Mr. Hartman from the IT Department introduced students to the tabletop strategy game Warhammer. Mr. Hartman brought in extra miniature figures so that everyone could join in—and even keep a model to start their own collection. The session also sparked a lively discussion about 3D printing, showing students how technology and creativity can come together to design and print custom game pieces. What is Warhammer? Warhammer is a hands-on strategy game. Players build and paint miniature armies and then use math, planning, and storytelling to guide those armies through imaginative battles on a tabletop. It’s like chess with a creative twist: Warhammer’s mix of art, strategy, and STEM concepts made it a perfect fit for the Board Game Club’s mission to bring games that challenge the mind and inspire creativity. The club thanks Mr. Hartman for sharing his passion and for showing how technology like 3D printing can bring games—and imaginations—to life.
